The Australian aquaculture industry operates under some of the strictest environmental regulations in the world and Australian prawn farming is widely recognised as a world leader in environmental management. Farmers work cooperatively with government agencies and community groups to promote sustainable practices in Australian prawn farms.
Crystal Bay Prawns are produced using environmentally sustainable culture processes, state of the art processing facilities and support services in accordance with the international principles of sustainable aquaculture production. Seafarms believes that protection of the environment is a primary corporate responsibility.
Farm 2 won the Category 1 Case Earth Award in 2002. The project entailed major civil construction works and also included significant components of environmental engineering and mitigation, extensive revegetation programs and earth stabilization.
Seafarms has also entered into a Voluntary Conservation Agreement with the Queensland State Government whereby a large parcel of land totalling more than 45 Ha has been retained in perpetuity as a nature buffer between the two main farms.
